A classic wool dhurrie in beige, green, pink, and brown colours to uplift the decor of the interiors, inspired by a vintage Scandinavian rug. It is made with pure New Zealand sheep wool in a fair trade workshop. The dhurrie is Made-to-order and ships in 4-6 weeks. Proudly designed and handwoven in India.

ABOUT THE ARTISANS

Kalavilasa has adopted a weaving cluster in a remote village in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, located about 550km (340 miles) from its capital Bhopal. 12 weavers from underserved communities are engaged in weaving the dhurries on punja looms. They are promised work through the year, and typically weave for 300 days in a year. They take pride in weaving the dhurries and readily take the challenge of weaving large dhurries and difficult patterns. Each dhurrie from Kalavilasa comes with a Thank You note from the weaver(s) who made the dhurrie.

A custom-made dhurrie is dispatched 4-6 weeks after the order is placed.

- Regularly vacuum the dhurrie to remove the dirt and grime. Once or twice a month is adequate, depending on how heavily the dhurrie is used.

- Reverse the dhurrie once every 6 months to ensure even wear over time. The design is identical on both sides.

- Wash the dhurrie once every year or two. Do not dry clean or steam clean the dhurrie. Instead, find a service provider who will hand-wash the dhurrie with a pH-balanced shampoo or a mild detergent. While the cotton dhurrie can be cleaned with a hard brush, use a soft-bristled brush for the wool dhurrie.

- Remove the dry stains immediately by carefully scraping from the edge to the center.

- Clean the wet stains by absorbing them with paper towels. Use a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not rub.

- Avoid direct and continuous exposure to sunlight.

- Avoid pulling loose ends of yarn. Instead, clip gently with scissors.
